red and sum(mer) variations of it

Perfect. What better summer morning activity than picking vine-ripe strawberries? And sneaking a few for yourself? Well obviously some other urchin critter agreed, and it nibbled away several strawberries. Oh the guile it had to choose the biggest reddest ones, and leave half of it hanging there. Purely spitefulness. I decided to think that it could have been a hummingbird that came to drink the strawberries' sweet nectar, it helped me think less violent thoughts towards the perpetrator.

A hummingbird feeder we have hanging in our lilac bushes. My dad told me as he brewed the sugar water that my mom liked to add red food coloring. I think it an excellent idea as well. We've seen a little metalic green hummingbird take some sips in the past few days. I could have tried to wait for him to take a photo, but I have no such patience.

Maybe you can't tell, but my shirt is red. I bought it a few months ago at a rummage sale and just yesterday found it on my closet floor. It hadn't gotten it past its first washing as it had been eaten up in the dark parts of my closet, which are, perchance, outside my laundry basket. But it was that very darkness of the closet that led me to my red tank top yesterday morning. I was cleaning it out to make room for my sleeping bag and eventually, me. I've decided, as Carl did as well many years ago, that the closet floor is the best place for me to sleep. It's dark, and cool, and quiet. I slept 10 hours straight yesterday...

A peony from my mother's peony plant.

I went lap swimming this morning right after work (a bit before 7 a.m.) I met a frined from work at the pool and we swam some laps. I'm not very good at prolonged exercise, especially when it involves respiratory endurance, so we took several stretch/chat breaks. The best part was at the end when we went to the toddler pool and stretched. It was nearly as warm as a hot tub. So nice. Above is my towel and four-piece swimsuit hanging on the line to dry.

I played the board game, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego, with Samuel this afternoon. He let me choose what color of questions to ask and I chose red, as I was imagining this blog already. The notes in the picture below the red clue card are for the article searches I was supposed to be conducting for my research paper due at the end of the month. I didn't do a thing with it while we played, but keeping them close by make me feel like I might be working on them. Note below that my playing piece was also red.

I 'red' your post all the way through :)! Red has been catching my eye too in the last months. Some of my favorite pants are red. the others are mint green.

are you in va? could I possibly see you...?
