Samuel, born on Valentine's Day thirteen years ago, always beats me at games--definitely at games of strategy like Settlers of Catan and Monopoly, but often at luck games too, like Egyptian Ratkiller. I am used to losing games, I am sure I, like every child, went through a not liking to lose stage, being the youngest and most cognitively vulnerable, I rarely won games as a child.
What amazes me about Samuel is his attitude--confident and sure of his dreams, easy-going, finding fun in life, and thinking about others. He has, from an early age, asked deep theological-type questions and analyzed what happens around him in the world.
He's an anchor, a winner for real. Happy birthday, Samuel!
