This picture of my niece, Lexi (one year old) has been on my desktop background all week. And everyday I've looked at it and it's comforted me. It's not just her delightfully hilarious and ever-endearing funny face and all-around cuteness, but it's also her pajamas. They're the sort of pjs that make you want to cuddle a child who's smelling like baby shampoo. The sort of pjs that hug you back, even if the child is squirmy. Those are the sort of hugs that I've needed this week.
The day after I found out that Tia Liliana had passed away, I received a call that Nelson, a guy from church who has been really sick and who I helped return to Maputo where his family lives, also passed away.
And amazingly, God sent me those hugs: my bff Brooke, my boyfriend Joseph, Manuel the kid I talked about in a previous blog. And God also sent me a peace, a peace I can hardly explain. Jammie peace for the soul.
