December 1 was World AIDS Day. Vumba (getting blood drawn above), who guards our house and helps us out with errands during the day, went with Brooke and I to get an AIDS test on November 30th. We had decided to invite all our household help to get tested with us. Vumba's girlfriend is pregnant. Another worker got pregnant out of wedlock. The area where we live has an infection rate ranging somewhere in the 35% range. Vumba was the only one willing and able to come with us. He was nervous. He was negative. (so were we)
For a very interesting and entertaining account of the story, check out my friend Brooke's blog: www.africahome.blogspot.com
